CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of June 1, 1993
TO: Honorable Mayor, City Council, and City Manager
FROM: Gale A. Drews, Electric Utility Director'
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. FOR ACQUISITION DATE: 5/25/93
FOR PUBLIC USE OF THE DISTRIBUTION FACILITIES AT
SHADID DRIVE, NORTH OF RECHE CANYON ROAD
BACKGROUND
Southern California Edison Company (SCE) has been providing electric service to
13 residences at Shadid Drive, which is within the City limits. In 1988, the
City built its 12,470 volt main electric distribution line along Reche Canyon
Road to serve housing tracts on Prado Lane and Reche Canyon Roadand most
recently has extended the line to Shane Drive.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Tract No. 14424 was developed last year and two out of 14 homes will be ready for
electric service within the next 2 weeks. The Department must extend facilities
at Shadid Drive to provide electric service to the resident's of this tract and
provide for future development in the -area.
ALTERNATIVES
The Department would have to underbuild the SCE line to provide electric service
for the new development. This would cause duplication of electric facilities to
the area and considerable expense in replacement of existing poles and
conductors.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Total compensation per inventory will be $41,200.00.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None.
RECOMMENDATION•
To prevent duplication of electric facilities to the area and considerable time
and expense,. Southern California Edison Company has agreed to condemnation of
their facilities at Shadid Drive.
The Electric Utility has in the past and will continue in the future to condemn'
SCE facilities within the City limits to provide service to all residences and
businesses within the limits of the City of Colton.
Staff recommends adoption 11 of the attached resolution.
Concurrence;
Jerr un , City Manager
Page 1 of 1 Item No.V
