CITY OF COLTON PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF REGULAR Mmim May 26, 1993 The meeting was called to order at 7:05 by Cecilia Hernandez. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT COMMISSIONERS ABSENT Ed Gonzales, Commissioner Suzan Cam, Chairperson Sal Rios, Commissioner Mary Chavez, ice -Chairperson Nadine Yarnell, Commissioner Jerry Nordoff, Commissioner David Toro, Commissioner STAFF PRESENT Cecilia Hernandez, Special Events Coordinator Paula Glaubig, Commission secretary COMMISSION ACTION AND INFORMATION ITEMS A. Citizen Awards - Nominations - Ms. Hernandez distributed nomination forms to the Commissioners that were present. Ms. Hernandez 'stated there are three nominations for the Citizen Award (Steve Aguilar, BetteCook, Richard Laque), two nominations for the Older American Award (Thelma Harmer, Joel Martin), one nomination for Female Athlete of the Year (Michelle Go ales), and three nominations for the Max J. Lofy Humanitarian Award (Wi liam G. Bracken, Frank Gonzales, Jo Soares). Ms. Hernandez stated there were no nominations for Sports Team or Male Athlete of the Year. Commissioner Rios stated last year if there were not nominations in each category and there was more than one strong candidate in other categories, then each nominee received an award. Commissioner Rios stated last year's budget could handle more than one recipient per category because other awards were not handed out. Commissioner Yarnell asked if applications for awards were printed in the newspaper. Ms. Hernandez replied the application was printed twice in the Colton Courier as well as mailing applications to several civic organizations. All Commissioners present decided to proceed with the approval of the nominations so the award presentations could be held on time. Ms. Hernandez stated the awards would be held at the Civic Center with a cake and punch reception after the June 16,1993 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Ms. Hernandez stated she will inform the Chairperson and Vice -Chairperson of tonight's decision. Ms. Hernandez stated each Commissioner will be asked to read a nomination and give the award to the recipient individually.
