VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTO�� <br />SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR 30 ELECTRONIC METERS TO MAYDWELL & HARTZELL IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $37,265.88 AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO CARRY FORWARD <br />THE FUNDS FROM THE 1995-96 FISCAL YEAR APPROPRIATION <br />DATE: JULY 10, 1996 <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Electric Department substation division is embarking on a pilot meter program that will allow them to <br />interrogate the 30 solid state meters placed on all industrial accounts from a personal computer. They <br />will be able to record specific system values (metrics), and customer load profile data. <br />This remote interrogation ability along with the features of a solid state meter will benefit the customer by <br />the possible tailoring of rates, trouble shooting customer electric problems, and providing real time <br />information of system characteristics at their facility. This information will also benefit the department by <br />allowing large flows of information to the operation PC for real time viewing, storage and analysis by <br />engineering, energy services and other. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />On June 18, 1996, Purchasing solicited sealed bids for these meters. Bid opening was held at 1:30 p.m., <br />June 27, 1996. Two bids were received and evaluated. McAvoy & Markham was the low bidder. The <br />City's specification required four features which cannot be met by the meter McAvoy & Markham has <br />proposed. The second bid was received from Maydweli & Hartzell.
