MEMORANDUM Office of the Mayor and Council Date: July 9, 1996 To: Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers From: Councilmember Betty L. Cook D Subject: Request for Traffic Signalization on South La Cadena Drive and 7' St. City Council Meeting of July 16,1996 Originally, this proposed traffic signalization for South La Cadena Drive and 7'" Street was approved in the five-year plan. This also included the approval of the Traffic Committee, the Colton Joint Unified School District and the residents of the area. Recently, this area has become a speeding zone and our Police Officers have frequently written many speeding tickets. Due to the increased speeding and traffic flow in this area, and in order to ensure the safety of the children attending Wilson Elementary School, traffic signalization has now become a priority. As the Councilmember representing District Four, I request for the immediate funding and completion of the traffic signalization at the corner of South La Cadena Drive and 7i4 Street. Accordingly, and due to the safety concerns of pedestrians and vehicular traffic, I also request this project be given a top pliority. Please Note: The over bridge on 7' Street and South La Cadena Drive was built in 1937 and is not earthquake proof, nor accessible to the handicapped. BLC:adf '�4 cc: City Manager Nabar E.
