MISSION: <br />''"To develop trust and advocacy to youth to redirect defiant social and criminal behavior patterns. To create a <br />dositive outlook and commitment to school <br />GOAL: <br />Implement programs as alternatives to gangs and other criminal behavior utilizing existing programs The project <br />will target 400 youth ages 11-19 through a number of special programs networking with city schools, private <br />non-profit agencies, church and community The program will also work with the parents and families of the <br />targeted youth providing counseling, parenting classes, referrals services, workshops and leaders. seminars. <br />TARGET GROUP: AGES 11 - 19 <br />TARGET NUMBER: 400 YOUTH TO PARTICIPATE 1N THE PROGRAM <br />DATES: MAY 10 THRU SEPT 15 <br />This program will work in conjunction with the existing programs and planned Summer programs. <br />Each program section will involve a team of 2 staff members to implement program. <br />RECREATION - evening recreation, basketball, softball, football, volleyball, aquatics,Wallybal Indoo Hockey, Badminton, <br />youth racquetball classes, special events and special programs <br />SPORTS - BASKETBALL, SOFTBALL, FOOTBALL, VOLLEYBALL, AQUATICS <br />Wallyball, Indoor Hockey, Badminton, youth racquetball classes <br />LUBS - Baby-sitters , Dance, video, graffiti, art, writers, sewing & stitch, Colton Jr. Police, ceramics <br />JR. POLICE - youth participating in developing awareness and support to the police department <br />EXCURSIONS - Theme parks, museums, colleges, job fairs, market fairs, auto shows, professional sports games, theater and TV <br />taping. <br />YOUTH EMPLOYMENT (SYETP 16 - 21 YRS)- Networking with S.H.U. Bus. & Ed Institute to employ 40 youth for the <br />employment training program. May 20 thru Sept 30, 1996. ***(applying for additional funding from JTPA for jobs) <br />ON-SITE EMPLOYMENT (14 & 21 YRS) - On site employment for max. 20 youth for 200 working hrs. <br />MENTORING - professional Mentoring redirecting youth to consider careers choices, social responsibility and community <br />commitment. <br />LEADERSHIP - Leadership workshops, peer counseling, youth to youth city/state conference,Youth Advisory Board and Youth <br />kccountability Board <br />YOUTH ACCOUNTABILITY BOARD - panel of youth to participate in determining programs and disciplinary action for youth <br />directed from the probation department and school board <br />
