VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST TO TERMINATE CONTRACT WITH DIETERICH INTERNATIONAL FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OF AN AERIAL LIFT TRUCK & AUTHORIZE STAFF TO RE - <br />ADVERTISE FOR BIDS. <br />DATE: OCTOBER 29, 1996 <br />At the Council Meeting of July 16, 1996, the City Council awarded a contract to Dieterich International for <br />the purchase of a 50 ft. aerial lift truck for the Electric Department. The aerial lift manufacturer, which is a <br />subcontractor for Dieterich International, has experienced some difficulties with this type of lift and has <br />discontinued manufacturing it. <br />DISC USSIONIANALYSIS <br />Staff has reviewed the other bids that were received at the time of award. The low bid from Altec <br />Industries for $117,517.54 did not meet specifications. Simon West Coast's bid was $169,394.85. This <br />bid meets the specifications, but is $31,308.73 higher than the bid received from Dieterich International for <br />$138,086.12. Staff is modifying the specifications and is recommending that Council terminate this <br />contract, and authorize staff to re -advertise for bids for the purchase of this vehicle. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The aerial device truck was approved in the FY 1996-97 budget and the funds are available in account <br />520-8000-8004-4910-0101. <br />Thomas K.
