VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTO
SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT TO AMERICAN BRISTOL INDUSTRIES FOR A TRAILER
MOUNTED MOBILE AIR COMPRESSOR IN THE AMOUNT OF $46,332.50
DATE: OCTOBER 29, 1996
BACKGROUND
The Fire Department has an approved budget to purchase a trailer mounted air compressor to recharge
their self-contained breathing apparatuses. The City of Riverside went to bid for this same air compressor
on May 29, 1996 and made an award to American Bristol Industries, Inc.
The City is currently in a shared situation with Con Fire for the use of a compressor. Each agency is
allocated a certain amount of time each month to use the compressor. There is also a charge of
approximately $2,000 per year for this service. The City's Water, Wastewater and Electric Departments
all have confined space equipment that will be recharged with this compressor. In the event of an
emergency or disaster the City will be assured of having the use of a compressor.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
Staff is recommending that we piggy -back onto the City of Riverside's bid and award a contract to
American Bristol Industries, Inc. in the amount of $46,332.50.
ALTERNATIVES
None
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The trailer mounted air compressor was approved in the FY 1996-97 and funds are available in account
100-6090-6091-4910.
Tom Hendrix, Battalion Chief
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City piggy -back onto the City of Riverside's bid and the Council award a
contract to American Bristol Industries, Inc. in the amount of $46,332.50.
Attachments: None
Page I of 1 Item No. 10
