rte•
MEMORANDUM
Office of the Mayor and Council
Date: September 24, 1996
To: Honorable. Mayor and Councilmembers (
From: Councilmember Deirdre H. Bennett U w '
Subject: San Timoteo Assessments Paid By NPDES Stormwater Assessments
City Council Meeting of October 1, 1996
At a recent Council Meeting, by majority vote, the Council elected not to use
Redevelopment Agency funds to pay for the San Timoteo Assessment improvements.
My concern is that this assessment is being imposed on the residents at a time when
families can least afford it. Additionally, I believe this assessment will benefit new
(^ development far more than it will benefit the residents. On previous occasions, many
issues that benefit our communities have not prevailed due to the politics of our City.
My desire is to avoid the politicization of this issue. Our residents and our community
are at stake in this matter. Simply stated, I request for the Council to make a decision that
will be for the benefit of our residents.
RECOMMENDATION: I respectfully request for the Council's approval and
concurrence to 1) find an alternative source of funding for the San Timoteo Assessment
Project; and 2) to have the NPDES Storm Water Assessments pay for the San Timoteo
Assessments which have been imposed upon our residents.
p49enda /tem `/ o. 17
