I feel that expenses <br />pertaining to District mailers and refreshments provided for District meetings have been <br />erroneously charged to the City Council budget. <br />As elected officials, the City Council is provided with a monthly stipend. It has always <br />been my understanding that the above-mentioned expenses, as well as, our phone and car <br />allowance are to be maintained with this stipend. <br />It is my opinion that District mailers are being utilized for political purposes and this <br />should be stopped. If the majority of the City Council wishes to continue with such <br />expenditures, then it should be clearly defined in the City Council's budget and such <br />funding should also be made available. <br />Mailers are highly political in nature and each elected official shoulo�5e the cost of this <br />process. If the City Council makes a majority decision that such actions will be allowed, <br />then let's declare this open season on mailers. <br />Additionally, I am formally requesting that this item be agendized for the City Council <br />Meeting of October 1, 1996. <br />AEB:adf <br />cc: City Manager Malik D.
