rN
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 15, 1996
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL: Mali Freeman, rim City Manager
FROM:
. am
Community De lopme Director
SUBJECT: Approval of an Amendment to The Budget for Fiscal Year 199r3-97
and Allow for the Purchase of Seven New Personal Computers.
DATA E: October 7, 1996
BACKGROUND:
The City's use of a computer system has increased so dramatically that the existing main frame
(H.P. 3000) can no longer support those needs. Therefore, the City purchased a H. P. 9000 to
serve as the computer system main frame. The H.P. 9000 utilizes a different language than the
H. P. 3000 and requires new operating software.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
After extensive testing by the City's Information Services Department and the staff of Hewlett
Packard, it has been determined that the five existing monitors currently in use by the
Community Development Department will no longer function once the existing H.P. 3000 is
disconnected and the new H.P. 9000 is on line. The Business License Division and the other
Divisions within Community Development provide services to the public via the monitors listed
above. Therefore, once the transition from the H.P. 3000 to the H.P. 9000 is completed, both
the Business License Division and the Community Development Department as a whole will no
longer be on line.
The Business License Division's existing software language is not compatible with the new H.P.
9000 hardware, and Council approved Municipal Resource Consultants to provide the new
Business License Software System. To complete the transition from the H.P. 3000 to the new
H.P. 9000, it has been determined that seven new personal computers will be required by the
Business License Division and the Community Development Department.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Business License Division has submitted a claim for reimbursement to the State of
California for Fiscal Year 1995/96, pursuant to Senate Bill 90. Attached are copies of the
documents submitted by the Business License Division for S.B. 90 reimbursement. The
proposed amendment in the amount of $42,000 (increased revenues and expenses) to the
curre dget will nqi a)fect existing funds, revenues, or cash reserves from the City's General
Fu
Community Devel4pmegt birector
Item 3
