CROWE, CAP A�f IN"/ <br />�� <br />SUBJECT: COPS MORE '96 GRANT <br />DATE: OCTOBER 9, 1996 <br />1-7a�9S�iT� � � <br />The United States Department of Justice, through the COPS More '96 grant program provides <br />funding to hire support personnel to supplement the activities of sworn officers. The City of Colton <br />Police Department is eligible to receive $36,006. This grant may be renewed for two (2) additional <br />years. <br />�IFYflIb��I7� /lJ� T�S�9691 <br />Through COPS More '96 the police department wil� resurrect the crime analysis unit. This vital unit <br />was deactivated in 1991 during budget review and personnel cuts. The police department will add <br />one (1) full time police crime analyst. This assignment will enhance the operetions and efficiency <br />of the department by developing programs which allow the police and neighborhood residents to <br />best identify and prioritize crime problems through statistical and analytical research and <br />communications. <br />: ��'- <br />Other than applying for this grant providing the salary and benefits of a non-sworn support position, <br />the alternative is to maintain the number of support staff allocated within the approved budget. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />COPMORE.Coc /rw <br />Item No. 6 <br />
