Date: <br />To: <br />Fro m: <br />Subject: <br />MEMORANDUM <br />Office of the Mayor and Council <br />September 10, 1490 <br />Honorable Councilmembers <br />Mayor George V. - p <br />J / <br />Development Issues of i 0nunon Interest to Colton and Riverside <br />CITY, COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMF3Ep .17 1995 <br />Background: <br />Over the past several years, the City of Colton has been interested in undeveloped land <br />owned by the City of Riverside Public Utilities Department that ties within Colton. <br />Approximately 454 acres are located in Colton and of that acreage,, 22.9 are owned by <br />Riverside Public Utilities: <br />DevelopmentSceuarios; ` <br />The City of Colton needs to conduct infrastructure and economic analyses and explore <br />potential development scenarios to determine the viability of industrial, commercial, <br />residential and recreational uses. <br />,Development':Issues in the City of Cottons: <br />About half the land in the area is in the City of Coltonand about half of that is owned by <br />Riverside public Utilities. Colton does not presently and could not feasibly provide <br />necessary water or sewer service to this isolated area. The City of Riverside is <br />immediately adjacent on the south and could readily provide these services. It appears <br />mutually advantageous for the two cities to reach as understanding about the future <br />development of this area. <br />Recommendation: <br />Recommend that the City of Colton correspond with the Mayor of Riverside requesting a <br />meeting to :include both cities' respective staff. The intent of this meeting would be iu <br />discuss and explore viable development issues of common interest to Colton and <br />Riverside.
