DEFINITION <br />Under general supervision, <br />related equipment. <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />WASTEWATER MECHANIC I <br />construct, maintain and repair wastewater treatment plant facilities and <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Receives general supervision from the Water Utilities Manager and Wastewater Superintendent. <br />Receives direct supervision from the Wastewater Supervisor. Receives technical supervision from the <br />Wastewater Mechanic II. May provide technical supervision to the Wastewater Treatment Operator <br />in Training. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This position in the Wastewater Mechanic class series is responsible for performing; a full range of <br />skilled, mechanical trades duties in several wastewater plants of varying age, with a variety of <br />treatment processes. The Wastewater Mechanic I provides entry for candidates with journey level <br />skills, but limited experience. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES -. <br />Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Install, perform preventative scheduled maintenance (e.g., adjust, lubricate, align) as well as <br />troubleshoot and repair treatment plant and lift station pumps, piping and equipment, submersible <br />pumps, electric motors, motor control systems,gear drives, generators, low pressure blowers, <br />compressors, air control systems, gas boosters, manual and electrical valves, digester units, gas and <br />diesel engines, chlorination and SO2 units, and other equipment, with or without mechanical <br />schematics, to ensure safe and effective operation. <br />Design and fabricate/construct equipment modifications to increase performance and/or decrease <br />equipment failure, design, fabricate and construct equipment supports/frames; construct pump bases <br />and other concrete fixtures. <br />Cut, fit and install steel or aluminum railings, grating covers and guards; install electrical conduit and <br />wiring; install and repair water, air and sewer pipelines; install flow measuring and backflow devices. <br />Operate 8-ton/stinger crane to move and place equipment, operate vactor and hydro trucks to clean or <br />unplug sewer lines; operate video camera to conduct sewer line inspections; operate safety monitoring <br />equipment. <br />Perform preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles (e.g., trucks, tractors), buildings, safety <br />equipment (e.g., SCBA); conduct inspections and evaluate manufacturer information to determine <br />preventative maintenance needs and establish maintenance schedules; prepare time and equipment <br />reports and records of work performed; locate and purchase parts and materials needed for repairs; <br />evaluate equipment failure and determine necessary corrective action in daily and call -out emergency <br />repair. <br />
