CITY OF COLTON ' <br />POLICE DISPATCHER I & II <br />PAGE 2 <br />Maintain contact with all units on assignment; maintain status and location of police field units. <br />Monitor security of police facility and alarm board. <br />Answer non -emergency calls for assistance; contact appropriate agency as necessary. <br />Coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other law <br />enforcement and fire fighting agencies. <br />May train new employees in dispatch, including record keeping and teletype operation. <br />Enter, update and retrieve information from computer and teletype networks relating to wanted <br />persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information. <br />Perform a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing, `and other general clerical work required to <br />document dispatch activities and provide resources for field offices. <br />Test and inspect equipment as required; report faulty equipment. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />QUALIFICATIONS• <br />• Police Dispatcher I <br />Knowledge of: <br />• Basic office procedureincluding but not limited to, filing, telephone etiquette and office <br />machine operation. <br />Ability to_ <br />• Understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Learn the geographic features and streets of the City. <br />• Learn and follow standard broadcasting procedures and rules. <br />• Learn and utilize a wide variety of codes and computer commands. <br />• Spell accurately. <br />• Work various shifts as assigned. <br />• Type at a speed necessary for adequate job performance. <br />• Learn to operate computer terminal and other office equipment quickly, accurately and at <br />times, concurrently. <br />• Learn to dispatch police units quickly and effectively. <br />• Speak clearly and precisely. <br />ivel and efficiently under pressure; exercise good judgment and make sound <br />• <br />Work effectively Y <br />decisions in emergency situations. <br />Effectively communicate with and elicit information from upset and irate citizens. <br />c:\word\jobs\DJSPAT-1.D0C <br />
