Mayor & City Council <br />Council Meeting of August 19, 1997 <br />Agenda Item: Approval of Upgrade of Vacant Position in the Water Department <br />from Maintenance Worker 11 to Water Operator II and Authorize the <br />Recruitment for Water Operator 11 <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Listed below is the cost comparison for the two positions: <br />POSITION SALARY BENEFITS TOTAL <br />Maintenance Worker 11 $2,192/mo. $1,110/mo. $40,417/yr. <br />Water Operator 11 $2,412/mo. $1,152/mo. $42,768/yr. <br />Difference $220/mo. $42/mo. $2,351/yr. <br />The Maintenance Worker II ($1,805 to $2,192) is figured at "E Step, based on the <br />assumption that a City employee would transfer to the Water Division. The Water <br />Operator 11 ($2,298 to $2,793) is figured at "B" Step,based on the assumption that the <br />candidate selected would have the experience and qualifications deserving of a "B" <br />Step appointment. <br />FUNDING AVAILABILITY: <br />This is an Enterprise Fund position, and sufficient funds have been budgeted in the <br />FY97-98 Water; Operations budget, as follows: Account No. 521-8100-8101-1010 and <br />Account No. 521-8100-8101-1100. <br />Thomas K. rke, Utility Direct& <br />MISSION CRITICAL: <br />This position is required to maintain the safety of the public's drinking water. <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: <br />September 22,`1997 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the upgrade of the vacant Water Department <br />position from Maintenance Worker 11 to Water Operator II and authorize the recruitment <br />of the Water Operator II. <br />
