Competition Transition Charge — this is a charge to cover part of the cost of generating
facilities already purchased to provide you with power.
All customers will see a new State -mandated charge oil their bill called the Public Benefit
Charge. The State requires the City to collect this money and to spend it in any of the
following areas:
1. Low or no -pollution sources of energy, such as solar power.
2. Programs for low-income customers. Qualifying customers will have the Public Benefit
Charge credited back to them immediately on their bill, effectively exempting them from the
charge.
3. Research, development, and demonstration projects. Small projects used to discover
and/or try out new ways of saving or generating electricity.
4. Energy efficiency and demand-side management programs. Projects to reduce usage
of energy during peak periods and to replace aging equipment with more efficient facilities.
As your publicly -owned electric utility, our goals are to provide you with the lowest possible cost
for electric service and to do so more reliably than our competitors. We invite you to compare,
and we extend to you the opportunity to take your electric energy needs to someone else if they
can give you a better deal than we can.
