CITY OF COLTON <br />WELDERMATER SERVICE WORKER <br />DEFINITION: <br />Performs skilled welding pertinent to the installation and maintenance of water facilities as part <br />of the water supply system of the City, and to do other related work as required. <br />EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Duties may include but are not limited to the following: <br />Under the direction of the Water Utilities Coordinator, performs all arc and gas welding required <br />by the Water Division; arc welds couplings on water mains under pressure, arc welds fire hydrant <br />risers; arc cuts cast iron, alloys, malleable iron, arc welds copper, bronze, hard face; welds in bell <br />holes; lays out and welds offsets; reads and works from blueprints and other construction plans; <br />performs for other City departments as directed; performs other installation and maintenance <br />activities on services, meters and pipelines as directed. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Safety practices and procedures; Water Division practices in the installation of services <br />and meters; methods of repairing leaks on various kinds of pipe; requisition of material; <br />interruption of service and notification; and understand sanitation procedures required for <br />pipe repairs; use of air operated tools, backhoe equipment, welding and cutting <br />equipment. <br />Ability to: <br />Keep accurate and legible time sheets, material reports and field level "As Built" <br />drawings; be familiar with traffic control procedures for performing work within the <br />public right-of-way; supervise and train personnel. <br />EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: <br />Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the construction, <br />maintenance or repair of water meters and water systems, including some experience in a <br />lead capacity. <br />Education: Equivalent to the completion of high school. <br />LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES: Grade I AWWA Distribution Operator Certificate and a <br />valid California Class B driver's license with acceptable driving record are required. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: <br />
