CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of February 4, 1997
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCI
APPROVAL: MALIK FREEMAN, CITY MANAG
FROM: BERNIE LUNSFORD, CHIEF OF POLICE
SUBJECT: LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PERSONNEL AMENDMENT
DATE: JANUARY 23, 1997
BACKGROUND:
The City of Colton Police Department was awarded $87,099 through the United States Department
of Justice Local Law Enforcement Block Grant. The proposal was approved by the City Council on
June 26, 1996.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Through Block grant funding the police department requested to add one (1) additional dispatcher
to the communications center, two (2) police cadets to patrol and one (1) cadet to the Crime
Prevention Unit. To best suit the personnel resources in meeting the objectives of the grant, one
(1) police cadet will be replaced with one (1) police stenographer. The money for this change is
within the grant and asset seizure accounts; there is no change to the general fund. The cadet
position has not yet been filled. This proposal has been approved by the Department of Justice
Other than amending the original grant award replacing a cadet with a stenographer, the option is
to maintain the original request.
The total budget will be increased from $96,776, to $103,526. This increase will be funded by
asset seizure moneys, account #261-6070-6083
gtr-(nafd O. L sfo d, Chief of Police
Item No. 10
