Goals For 1997
In order to set goals for our City, we must first take some time to decide where we are
and what it is we are attempting to achieve. The following questions might be necessary
to answer before we begin. These can help narrow down for us what our goals should be.
A) Do we want to create a MISSION STATEMENT for our City? I would like to see
us form one. A statement that will clearly inform anyone who reads it the things we feel
our City represents, and what it is we stand for.
Two good questions that might help formulate a Mission Statement are:
1. Why do we exist?
2. What is our purpose?
B) Do we want to have a clear VISION STATEMENT?
I feel that we should. But then we must ask: What do we want to create?
C) Are we going to include a clear and precise VALUES STATEMENT?
Again I feel it would benefit our City to develop one. Two good questions to answer that
would help formulate a Values Statement are:
1. What are our beliefs?
2. How do we behave?
I believe we are sitting in a very unique and positive position, right now we have an
opportunity to take advantage of the new Council that was formed this past election.
Together we can help move our City forward with the Community hilly supporting us
because we have given them tangible Values, Vision, and Mission Statements that are easy
to understand. From there we can develop our goals based on those 3 items as the
foundation of the goals.
From the desk of Councilwoman Deirdre Bennett
