CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE STENOGRAPHER <br />DEFINITION <br />Under supervision, types documents from dictation and other sources in a rapid and accurate manner. <br />May perform limited clerical duties and data entry. <br />CLASS CHARACTERISTICS <br />Positions in this class are typically filled by persons who are currently enrolled in a Court Reporter <br />School. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Receives supervision from the division supervisor. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Type reports and documents from tape transcriptions through a stenography machine to a high speed <br />text entry computer program. <br />Produce corrected reports on Police Department word processing programs. <br />Sort, file copy and distribute reports. <br />Input data into Police Department and other related law enforcement computer systems <br />Operate department office equipment such as copying machines, adding machines and transcribers. <br />Receive and screen visitors and phone calls; take messages or refer the caller to the proper persona <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of• <br />English usage, including including spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation. <br />Record keeping and filing methods. <br />Stenography machine operation. <br />Personal computer operation. <br />Modern office procedures, including business letter writing and report preparation. <br />
