CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEMS COORDINATOR <br />DEFINITION <br />Under the direction of a Police Division Commander to oversee, coordinate and perform a variety <br />of work activities and duties relative to the operation of all computer systems within the Police <br />Department; assist with hardware and software research, analysis, recommendations, <br />documentation, implementation, contracts, maintenance and general support; assist with project <br />design and stay abreast of current and future computing needs of the Police Department; provide <br />statistical reports and crime analysis using Department and other criminal justice resources; and <br />other related duties as directed. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />The Police Information Systems Coordinator is a journey level classification responsible for <br />maintaining all of the Police Department computer systems and responding to all of its computer <br />needs. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />May exercise technical and functional supervision over project staff. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br />Oversee, coordinate and perform a variety of work activities and duties relative to the operation of <br />all computer systems within the Police Department. <br />Assist with hardware and software research, analysis, recommendations, documentation, <br />implementation, contracts, maintenance, general support and compliance with state, federal, and <br />local laws. <br />Assist with project design and implementation. <br />Participate in the development of policies and procedures regarding computer use; recommend <br />programs, projects and systems to higher level management personnel; develop standard security <br />and back-up procedures. <br />Supervise the operation and maintenance of the Police Department computer equipment and <br />supporting devices including the Local Area Network and connections to other department systems. <br />Assist in the training of department employees in the use of computers; ensure adherence to proper <br />work methods, procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make <br />recommendations to higher level staff. <br />Maintain all computer equipment which may include installing new hardware equipment and <br />repairing systems; install new software and instruct users. <br />1 <br />„ i - -- - ---- z I <br />
