CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR _ <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR REJECTION OF AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTRACT FOR THE RECHE CANYON WATER LINE RELOCATION <br />PROJECT AND DIRECTION TO PROCEED WITH RE -BID PROCESS <br />DATE: JUNE 10, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND` <br />The County of San Bernardino is proceeding with the widening of Reche Canyon Road <br />located within the County portion. In order to widen Reche Canyon Road, the City was <br />required to relocate its water Zine. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />On June 9, 1997, staff received bids for the Reche Canyon Water Line Relocation <br />project. The three low bids, are as follows: <br />1. $48,240 <br />2. $69,860 <br />3. $72,097.10 <br />Due to discrepancies beyond both staff's and bidders' control, there were <br />inconsistencies and errors in all the bidders' documents that were submitted. Staff has <br />determined that it is best to reject all bids and proceed to re -bid. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />None until time of actual award of bid. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council reject the bids for the award of the construction contract <br />for the Reche Canyon;' Water Line Relocation project and direct staff to proceed to re- <br />bid. <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />Item No. 18 <br />
