VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTO ��� <br />SUBJECT: AW,ARD OF BID FOR 90 FT. AERIAL DEVICE TRUCK, 40 FOOT AERIAL DEVICE Ti2UCK AND <br />INSULATOR WASHER TRAILER TO ALTEC tN THE AMOUNT OF $424,697.70 <br />DATE: JUNE 1Q, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND <br />A 90 it. and a 40 ft. aerial device truck as weil as high pressure insulator washer trailer are approved in the FY1995-96 budget <br />for the Electric Department. The 40 ft. unit will be replacing a 1980 aeriai device truck, unit #260, whieh wili be used to change <br />streetlights and do minor repairs. The 90 foot aerial device truck has a longer reach than our existing trucks and will be used to <br />wash insulators, change ball field lighting and do other tasks that require a longer reach. The insulator washer trailer will be <br />replacing unit 259, which is a 1972 model trailer. On May 15, 1997, Putchasing solicited for sealed bids for these trucks. The <br />bid apening was held af2:30 p.m., June 5, 1997. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />Three bids were received and evaluated. The low bid on the 90 foot aerial device was received from Pacific Utility Equipment <br />Co. The truck they are proposing does not meet the bid specifications, and no information was provided #o expiain their <br />exceptions to the specifications. The second low bid was received from Altec Indust�ies which met all of the specifications. <br />The difference in price between the two companies is $2,316.62. <br />� The low bid on the 40 foot aeri,�l device truck was received from Altec Industries. The low bid on the insulator washer trailer <br />was received from Pacific Utility Equipment, however, thsy did not comply with the bid instructions which required them to <br />submit compiete factmry specifications on #heir proposed equipment. The second low bid, which meets ail of the specifications, <br />was received from Altec industries. The difference in price between the two companies is $233.82. <br />Attached is a Bid Analysis showing the price and delivery time quofed by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is <br />underlined. - <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Reject allbids and direct staff to re-bid. <br />FINANGIAL IMPACT <br />The above equipment is approved in the FY1996-97 budget and funds are available for both aerial trucks in account 520-8000- <br />8 -4910-0101 d fo e i I washer trailer in account 520-8000-8004-4930-0101. <br />Thomas K.
