HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTO
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE TRANSFER OF COST SAVINGS rDS
FROM 96-97 PAVING PROGRAM AND APPROVE BUDGET
AMENDMENT RESOLUTION TO GAS TAX FUND FOR THE
C.D.B.G. PROJECTS COST SHORTFALLS
DATE: FEBRUARY 25,1997
BACKGROUND:
The Community Development Block Grant Street Paving Program has a shortfall in the
current fund allocations.
PROJECT NO.'f
C.D.B.G. PROJECT 104-21705
Location Northeasterly section of Colton, (Olive, Mt. Vernon and Grant).
Approved C.D.B.G. Reimbursable $188,900.00
Current allocation $ 67,230.00
Contract award $169,076.45
Final contract price $ 204,876.26
Shortfall $137,646.26
This C.D.B.G.avin
P 9 overlay project encountered several sections of street paving
that had only a depth of 1" to 1.3" of existing asphalt. When the surfaces were cold
planed, all asphalt material was removed leaving only the exposed sub -grade. With
the onset of rainy days, these exposed sub -grade streets degenerated into mud areas.
This condition made it necessary for the contractor to excavate the water saturated
sub -grade and reconstruct the street section with the placement of additional asphalt to
build up a pre -level road surface before applying the final overlay. This generated an
approximate $30,000 over run cost to this project.
PROJECT GROUP NO. 2
C.D.B.G. PROJECT 104-20505
Location South Colton (2"d, 3rd, and 5t' Streets)
Approved C.D.B.G. Reimbursable $234,230.00
Current allocation $234,230.00
Item No. 11
