CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT Council Meeting of March 4, 1997 TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members FROM: Daryl I Parrish, Assistant City Manager UP Purchase of Easement From Southern Pacific Transportation Company for the Regional Project 3-5 Storm Drain DATE: February 26, 1997 BACKGROUND: In the fall of last year the City of Calton Electric Utility purchased a duct bank easement (with the Council's approval) from the Southern Pacific Transportation Company that was necessary to run an electrical line from the new substation to the County Medical Center currently under construction. The cost established by Southern Pacific for this easement was $1.50 per square foot. In order to avoid future delays in designing and eventually constructing the Regional Project 3-5 Storm Drain, we must obtain an easement from Southern Pacific for the proposed Storm Drain that will be immediately adjacent to the aforementioned electrical line. DISCUSSION: Recently, our office requested that our consultant, Engineering Resources contact Southern Pacific and request a written proposal for the cost of the necessary easement. Attached is the response received outlining the cost of the proposed easement which in effect is identical to the price paid for the easement obtained for the electrical line last year, or $1.50 per square foot. The total cost for the proposed easement includes a three month temporary construction easement and is equal to $89,700. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this easement is available in the "Storm Drain South of 1-10 Capital Improvement Fund" (Established by the Medical Center MOU) Account Number 754- 6850-6859-3890 in the amount of $89,700.
