--•-� v. v•�i�vtl <br />Community Services Department <br />WATER RULE NO. 11 <br />SERVICE CONNECTIONS, METERS <br />AND <br />RELATED APPARATUS <br />A. GENERAL <br />1. Service pipes, meters, meter boxes and other appurtenances shall <br />be constructed within the public right-of-way, or within easements <br />as negotiated by the Director. <br />When the meter and meter box cannot reasonably be located in the <br />public right-of-way, they shall be located on the customer's premises <br />adjacent to the crossing of the service pipes with the property Zine, <br />or such other location as may be agreed upon by the customer and the <br />Director._ <br />No rent or other charge shall be levied against the Department for <br />meters, meter boxes, service pipes or other appendages which must be <br />located on the customer's property.. <br />2. The Department shall own and maintain all service pipes, meters and <br />appendages from the water main to and including the meter, whether <br />located on private property or in the public right-of-way. <br />3. The customer shall, at his own expense and risk, furnish, install <br />and maintain all apparatus and appliances which are required to receive, <br />control, regulate and utilize the pressure and flow of water as furnished <br />by the Department. The Department shallnot be liable for any loss or <br />damage caused by the improper installation, maintenance or malfunction <br />of such apparatus. The Department shall not be responsible for damage <br />or incdnvenience occasioned by the misuse of water after it has left the <br />meter, nor for any damage caused by the turning on and off of water <br />service by Department forces. <br />4. The customer shall compensate the Department for any and all damage <br />to meters, pipes or other equipment under the Department's jurisdiction, <br />which is caused by carelessness or neglect of the customer. <br />5. It shall be the customer's or property owner's responsibility to <br />maintain free and clear access for the Department's representatives <br />to all meters, meter vaults, backflow devices, fire hydrants and <br />other water facilities supplying his premises. <br />6. Inasmuch as ownership of all meters, service pipes and other apparatus <br />as described in Paragraph 2 above is vested in the City, only authorized <br />representatives and employees of the Department are'permitted.to connect <br />or disconnect the service pipes to the main, or to turn the service on <br />or off at the meter. Tampering with the meter or service pipe in any <br />way by unauthorized persons is a violation of these rules and may result <br />in the discontinuance of water service. <br />-24- <br />
