The .history of Colton is replete with booms <br />d busts which reflect the sporadic growth of the Southern <br />California's Inland Empire, the railroad, the influx of population <br />mer World War 11 and from Mexico on the Southern Border, <br />and the oconomic health of its big sister city San Bernardino. <br />The 199(Y's have seen the decline of the Air Force. Bases the <br />acrospac:e industry, and the downsizing of allied manufacturing <br />companies . This decline has been coupled with the increase in <br />productivity due to the introduction of the computer and the <br />layoffs resulting from consolidations of banks, trucking <br />companies, and other mergers ers and acquisitions. A stroll along <br />the railroad tracks from "A" Street to " I 'x Street shows <br />abandoned buildings and the depressed state of the economy in <br />Colton. <br />While the decline of the 909s is distressing, the City of Colton <br />has an unique opportunity to talk advantage of the condition in <br />which it finds itself.
