CITY OF COLTON <br />FIRE ENGINEER <br />PAGE 2 <br />QUALIFICATIONS <br />Knowledge of: <br />• Principles, practices, and procedures of modern firefighting and firefighting vehicles, <br />equipment and apparatus. <br />• Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, tools, and apparatus used in <br />firefighting, rescue, and medical assistance operations. <br />• Principles of mechanics, hydraulics, and mathematics as related to Fire Engineer duties. <br />• EMT skills. <br />Ability to: <br />• Effectively and safely drive and operate the full range of fire apparatus and equipment used <br />by the department. Perform field calculations of hydraulics for the proper and effective <br />operations of equipment at emergencies. <br />• Provide EMT or EMTP skills <br />• Demonstrate physical endurance, agility, strength, and stamina in the performance of <br />hazardous tasks under emergency conditions; think and act quickly in emergencies. <br />• Understand and follow oral directions promptly and accurately. <br />• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. <br />Experience and Training <br />Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge <br />and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: <br />Experience: <br />• Three years of full-time firefighting experience in a municipal fire department. <br />Training: <br />• Successful completion of one half of the State Certified Fire Officer courses; <br />OR <br />• Successful completion of one half of the required core units for an A.S. degree in <br />Fire Science. <br />License or Certificate <br />• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class "B" Commercial or Class "B" Firefighters, valid <br />California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. <br />• Possession of an appropriate, valid EMT and CPR certification. <br />• Possession of City of Colton Fire Department Engineers Certificate <br />Approved by Council: August 18, 1992 <br />e: \word\jobs\fireeng.doc <br />
