CITY OF COLTON FIRE ENGINEER PAGE 2 QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: • Principles, practices, and procedures of modern firefighting and firefighting vehicles, equipment and apparatus. • Purposes and uses of a variety of vehicles, equipment, tools, and apparatus used in firefighting, rescue, and medical assistance operations. • Principles of mechanics, hydraulics, and mathematics as related to Fire Engineer duties. • EMT skills. Ability to: • Effectively and safely drive and operate the full range of fire apparatus and equipment used by the department. Perform field calculations of hydraulics for the proper and effective operations of equipment at emergencies. • Provide EMT or EMTP skills • Demonstrate physical endurance, agility, strength, and stamina in the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions; think and act quickly in emergencies. • Understand and follow oral directions promptly and accurately. • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Experience and Training Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: • Three years of full-time firefighting experience in a municipal fire department. Training: • Successful completion of one half of the State Certified Fire Officer courses; OR • Successful completion of one half of the required core units for an A.S. degree in Fire Science. License or Certificate • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class "B" Commercial or Class "B" Firefighters, valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. • Possession of an appropriate, valid EMT and CPR certification. • Possession of City of Colton Fire Department Engineers Certificate Approved by Council: August 18, 1992 e: \word\jobs\fireeng.doc
