AGENDA REPORT DUPLICATE
For the Council Meeting of May 6, 1997
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: MALIK FREEMAN, CITY MANAGER
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: AWARD OF ENGINEERING CONTRACT TO JOHN EGAN AND
ASSOCIATES IN THE AMOUNT $26,450 FOR THE RIALTO
RESERVOIR #2 REHABILITATION
DATE: APRIL 23, 1997
BACKGROUND:
Krieger and Stewart, consulting engineers for the City's Water Master Plan,
recommended 3MG Rialto Reservoir #2 for immediate rehabilitation. The Reservoir is
currently out -of -service.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The rehabilitation work required to bring the Reservoir into full compliance with State
Department of Health Services regulations, will require a water engineer to prepare the
bid specifications. Staff received three quotes from water engineers to perform the
rehabilitation specifications. The quotes are as follows:
1. John Egan & Associates
2. Krieger & Stewart
3. Kennedy/Jenks
$26,450
$34,700
$38,241
ALTERNATIVES:
Council may request additional quotes, however, the rehabilitation work needs to be
completed by June 30, 1997 in order to ensure a sufficient water supply for summer.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The 96-97 Capital Improvement Projects, as recommended by Krieger and Stewart,
were included in the FY96-97 budget. Sufficient revenues are available to fund both
the engineering services and rehabilitation work. Funds in the amount of $266,200 are
available in the Water Capital Improvement Account for Reservoirs, No. 521-8100-
81 GJ:V-90. / /
Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council award the engineering design contract for the
Rehabilitation of Rialto Reservoir #2 to John Egan and Associates in the amount of
$26,450.
Report Prepared By: Lorraine June
Item # 7
