Hutton b- <br />u v <br />Subject: Submittal for Commission's Review to Rename West Valley Park <br />This is a formal request for the City Council's consideration to submit a recommendation <br />to the Parks and Recreation Commission for renaming West Valley Parka The <br />recommendation is to rename West Valley Park after, and in memory of, Former <br />Councilmember Gertrude Spragins. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Ms. Spragins served on the Colton City Council for 12 years as a Councilmember and <br />Mayor Pro Tem. She was the first woman ever to be elected as an At -large <br />Councilmember with the Colton City Council. During her term in office, Former <br />Councilmember Spragins earned the admiration and respect of civic leaders and a host of <br />area residents. She was also credited for numerous contributions to the community. Her <br />outlook and objective was always for the betterment and enjoyment of all the residents. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />It would be an honor and ;a sincere expression of appreciation to name a park in memory <br />of the Former Councilmember Gertrude Spragins for her distinguished service to the <br />community. Recommendation to submit this request to the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission and ask for their confirmation to rename West Valley Park to "GERTRUDE <br />SPRAGINS COMMUNITY PARK."
