CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 18, 1997
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: LEN WOOD, INTERIM CITY MANAGER ot,L,
FROM: ANNA A. VEGA, FINANCE DIRECTOda)--,
SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR ANNUAL WATER METER CONTRACT TO SCHLUMBERGER
IN THE ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF $69,631.40
DATE: NOVEMBER 11, 1997
BACKGROUND
The City purchases water meters into Water Stores Inventoryto use as needed when meters are
requested for new development or replacement. The Water Division has a water meter replacement
program to change residential and commercial meters approximately every ten (10) years. After ten (10)
years, the meter register slows down and does not accurately record all the water that flows through the
meter. Replacing the meter allows the City to more accurately measure the water usage, which ensures
that the customer is billed for the correct amount of water.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
On October 22, 1997 the Purchasing Division solicited for sealed bids for an annual water meter
contract. The estimated amounts are based on the history of usage in the prior year. Purchasing mailed
out thirteen bid packages. Bid opening was held at 2:30 p.m., November 6, 1997, in the Purchasing
office. Four bids were received and evaluated. A Bid Analysis is attached showing price and delivery
quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is underlined.
ALTERNATIVES
None
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Water Division has funds budgeted in their operating budget, account 521-8100-8101-2400 for
meter replacements.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None "
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council award an annual water meter contract to Schlumberger in the estimated
amount of $69,631.40.
Report prepared by Mary J.
