m CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT I -UK UUUNUIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 7, 1997 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL APPROVAL: LEN WOOD, INTERIM CITY MANAGER FROM: JOHN HUTTON PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR 7TH AND LA CADENA DRIVE SIGNALIZATION PROJECT DATE: SEPTEMBER 29, 1997 BACKGROUND: Council authorized the expenditure of $120,000 for a project to signalize the intersection of 7th Street, La Cadena Drive and Maple Street - $109,000 for construction & contingencies and $11,000 for design. A copy of the budgeted item from the Traffic Impact Fund, pg. 56, is attached. This project was advertised for competitive bidding. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS The Bid Opening for this project was held September 23, 1997. The following seven (7) Bids were submitted; they have been arranged from lowest bidder to highest bidder. 1. Sierra Pacific Electrical Contracting $129,144.00 2. DBX Inc. $133,351.50 3. Superior Signal Corporation $143,402.00 4. New West Signal $144,235.50 5. Computer Service Company $146,862.00 6. High -Light Electric $158,062.00 7. Fischbach & Moore Inc $162,194.20 The Bids have been reviewed by the City Engineer. Sierra Pacific Electrical Contracting was found to be the Lowest Responsible Bidder. FINANCIAL IMPACT The lowest bid exceeded the allocation authorized by Council. The additional funding necessary is in the Traffic Impact Fund for Misc. & Prof. Services Traffic.. See attached Budget pg 53. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT None. RECOMMENDATION • Staff recommends that Award of Contract go to Sierra Pacific Electrical Contracting for a total bid amount of $129,144.00, and • Recommend additional funding to cover Bid being recommended $9,144.00 and $12,000 construction management engineering cost to be approved from Budget Pg. 53 Traffic Fee Fund Account 2350-0000-000 and 4930-0000-000 Misc. Traffic Fee Fund and Professional Services, for a total of 21,144.00 available within the approved 97/98 Budget Traffic Fee Fund. Item # 6
