CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 18, 1998
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL: Hen Garcia, Cit anag
FROM: Dav amo
Community De ment Director
SUBJECT: First Reading of an Ordinance Amending Chapter 18.56.030 of the
Colton Municipal Code, pertaining to the on-site storage of refuse
containers in residential zones.
DATE: August 11, 1998
BACKGROUND:
The City's current property maintenance ordinance (18.56.030 H) restricts and classifies
garbage or trashcans/containers stored in front or side yards and visible from public streets
as a nuisance and therefore, subject to abatement. However, due to the narrowness of
several parcels in the R-1 and R-1/PC residential zones, staff is requesting that the Council
consider amending the current ordinance, to allow the storage of garbage containers along
side yards. Containers stored or remaining in front yards will continue to be subject to
abatement.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The requirements regulating trash storage areas for all remaining zone designations will
remain in effect.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Council may chose not to amend the Ordinance; however, the current restrictions in the
R-1 and R-1/PC zones make compliance and enforcement impractical in many cases.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council approve the proposed amendment to Title 18 of the Colton
Municipal Code.
DRZ/kd
Attachment: Ordinance
Item # 3
