CITY OF COLTON <br />POLICE LIEUTENANT <br />DEFINITION: <br />To perform responsible management, supervisory and technical police work in commanding <br />either the patrol services section or the investigations section; and to do related work as assigned. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: <br />Receives general direction from Police, Captain. <br />Exercises direct supervision over sworn and non -sworn personnel. <br />EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following: <br />With the approval of higher level department management, develop and implement goals, <br />objectives, policies and priorities. <br />Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of the Patrol or Investigations Section; conduct <br />studies of the organization and procedures of the department; analyze data; make procedural <br />recommendations; prepare reports. <br />Coordinate and supervise the activities of the Patrol Section; oversee the scheduling of personnel <br />- on assigned shifts; supervise canine, SWAT and reserve office activities. <br />Conduct, supervise and coordinate investigations of criminal acts; instruct officers in <br />investigation procedures; review all investigation reports and make recommendations and <br />suggestions to officers; coordinate investigations involving several officers. <br />Receive complaints or reports of emergencies and determine need for police action; ensure that <br />reports and records are properly submitted and maintained. <br />Review the work of subordinates to ensure compliance with departmental policies and <br />procedures; participate and lead staff meetings to review department services, procedures and <br />activities. <br />Correct, supervise and participate in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records. <br />Assist -in administrative responsibilities involving the department's purchasing,. personnel and <br />communications functions; conduct special studies of department functions as assigned. <br />Assist in developing and conducting training programs in the various phases of police activities. <br />Assist in coordinating police activities with other City departments and divisions and with <br />outside agencies. <br />
