HUTI'ON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMEN TO THE FULL-TIW <br />POSITION OF MAINTENANCE WORKER I IN THE PUBLIC WORKS <br />DEPARTMENT, PARKS DIVISION <br />UA <br />BACKGROUND: There is one (1) Maintenance Worker 11 position that is currently Vacant, that will <br />be under -filled by a Maintenance Worker I. Attached is the job description for the classification. <br />Salary range for a Maintenance Worker II is $1,877 - 2,283 and the salary range for a Maintenance <br />Worker I is $1,788 - 2,174 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: This position became vacant when physicians determined the former <br />worker was a qualified injured worker. Recruitment for said position was conducted and an eligibility <br />list established. The candidate being referred for Council ratification meets all the requirements as <br />specified in the job description and has been working in this position for seventeen months through a <br />temporary agency. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: This is an approved general fund position, in the fiscal year 1997-98 budget <br />funded as follows: Account No. 100-6150-6153-1010 (salary -miscellaneous) and Account No. 100- <br />6150-6153-1100 (salary related benefits). Under -filling this position will result in an annual salary <br />saving, incl ben fits, of approximately $3,588. <br />C <br />J#X Hutton, Public Works Director <br />MISSION CRITICAL: This position is required to maintain effective operations in the Public Works <br />Department. <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: February 9, 1998. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council ratify the employee appointment <br />to the full-time sition of Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department. <br />Reviewed by: <br />PERSONNEL <br />Page of <br />Item # 16 <br />
