HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTO SUBJECT: RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTME TO THE PART TIME POSITION OF EQUIPMENT MECHANIC IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT DATE: BACKGROUND: There is one (1) Equipment Mechanic position that is currently vacant. Attached is the job description for the classification. Salary range for a full-time Equipment Mechanic is $ 2,296 2,791 per month and the hourly salary range for a part-time Equipment Mechanic is $13.25 -$16.11. DISCUSSIONAANALYSIS: In Fiscal Year 97198 Budget, Council approved three full-time Equipment Mechanics in the Public Works Department. Reducing one of these positions to a part-time position will adversely affect the service levels currently provide by Auto Shops. It will be very difficult to recruit and hire a qualified, certified Equipment Mechanic willing to work part-time without benefits. Staff feels all three positions should remain fiall-time. Recruitment for said position was conducted and an eligibility list established for a full-time position. A recruitment to fill the part-time position will be needed. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This is an approved general fund position, in the fiscal year 1997-98 budget funded as follows: Account No. 100-8700-8700-1010 (salary) and Account No. 100-8700-8700-1100 (salary ate b nefits). Filling this position with a part-time employee will result in an annual salary sa inclu benefits of approximately $22,970. C.
