June 16, 1998
John Hutton
Director of Public Works
City of Colton
Colton, Ca 92324
Re: Cooley Ranch Park
Dear Mr. Hutton:
We the residents of the City of Colton Community Facilities District 89-1 paid a large sum
of money to have a park put in our area. Twenty six trees, two fountains, a walkway and
grass were installed. Since the park was turned over to the City of Colton for regular up
keep and maintenance, it has steadily deteriated.
The grass in many areas is now nothing but weeds. A few of the trees have died, were
taken out and not replaced. It is our understanding that the maintenance company is
suppose to replace any trees or plants as they are taken out.
We are asking for your help in bringing our park back up to its original position and then
to add some items to make it more useful to our community.
The following are items that need replacement. A map of the park is included and
numbered from 1 to 5 are trees that are gone and have not been replaced. Trees 6 & 7 are
dead and need replacement. Many areas of the grass need to be rototillered and
reseeded.
The following are items we would like for improvements. First, we would like to have more
trees put in that will give more shade to the areas. The liquid Amber and Canary Island
Pine have not grown very well and are not giving off much shade. We would like to have
7 or 8 more trees added as shown by letters A to I on the map. These trees could be
sycamores, good shade trees, etc.
Second, we would like to have three picnic areas installed as marked by AA, AB, BB.
Included in these areas there should be a picnic table and a barbecue.
Third, we would like to have benches installed by each of the fountains for places for
people to sit.
