CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 5, 1998
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council
APPROVAL: Henry T. Garcia, City
FROM: Carolyn Jones, Child Care Manager
SUBJECT: Approval for Colton Community Childcare to apply for Membership in
Survive Food Bank
DATE: April 28,1998
BACKGROUND: As recipients of State Funding we are required to provide nutritious snack to our
client population of over 200 children.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Childcare is currently spending over seven thousand dollars a year for
nutritious snacks. The membership in the food bank will allow us to dramatically decrease food and
food related expenditures. The food bank offers prices we are unable to match elsewhere (14 cents a
pound for all food).
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The funding for this approved expenditure has a budget account no. 206-
7200-7202-0000-000. By utilizing the Survive Food Bank we will be able to re -direct a percentage o
our budget food allotment into other needed childcare supplies.
Carolyn J
MISSION CRMCAL: As recipients of funds from the State of California Department of Education
and Licensing we are required to provide a nutritious supplement snack. Membership in the Food
Bank will allow us to defray food cost and augment our budget categories designated for instructional
supplies.
May 13, 1998.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council approve application of Community Childcare
for membership in Survive Food Bank.
Item # 9
