CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 17,1998
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Managet//
FROM: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director
SUBJECT: Establish one new position of Office Support Floater (Permanent Temporary
Position)
DATE: November 5,1998
BACKGROUND: As part of budget discussions, the City Council wanted to decrease reliance on temporary
staffing agencies to fill vacancies or provide staff for special projects.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The creation of this position will establish a vehicle for reducing
dependence on temporary staffing agencies by establishing a "permanent temporary position" which
will essentially become a City floating employee to assist in any department within the City in office
support functions in which a vacancy exists or where there is a need for temporary office support.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: No financial impact is expected. There may be potential savings. The City is
paying approximately $26,500 per year to temporary agencies for each office support category employee
provided by them. While the new position would be full time with benefits, the cost would be lower than the
rate paid to temporary agencies for their services.
RECONEMENDATION: That the Mayor and City Council approve the amendment to the salary
resolution to establish a "permanent temporary position" of Office Support Floater.
Prepared by: Judith Glithero
Attachment: Resolution
Agenda 111798.1..doc
Item # 11
