CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of November 17, 1998
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY gWN41L
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGE
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR—J-•
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 IN THE AMOUNT
NOT -TO -EXCEED $31,000 FOR THE JOHN MATICH DRIVE
TRENCH REPAIR PROJECT
DATE: NOVEMBER 5, 1998
BACKGROUND:
On October 6, 1998, Council awarded a construction contract to Vance Corporation in
the amount of $97,870 for the trench repair project on John Matich Drive.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Vance Corporation has removed the existing pavement on John Matich Drive, and the
City's Inspector along with the Consulting Engineer are now recommending the
following: 1) Each of the water line services be replaced; 2) The service trenches be
filled with slurry to prevent any future undermining of the water lines by underground
water flows. The engineer's cost estimate for this work is not -to -exceed $31,000.
Without this added protection to the water lines, it is probable that they will be damaged
during the next EI Nino weather event.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funds have been budgeted in the Water Line Replacement Capital
Improvement, Account Number 521-8100-8106-3890.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council approve change order no. 1 in the amount not -to -
exceed $31,000 to Vance Corporation for the trench repair on John Matich Drive.
Report Prepared By: Lorraine June
Item # 15
