Trewyn, Assistant Electric Utility Director�� <br />SUBJECT: Proposed Travel Cost Over $1,000 Per Person <br />DATE: September 21, 1998 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Pursuant to Resolution No. R-26-97 "... Relating to City Employee Travel", a request is being submitted <br />for travel and expenses which will be in excess of $1,000 per traveler. Attendance is in the interest of the <br />City and the travel is for city -related business or educational purposes. <br />DISCUSSION 1 ANALYSIS <br />The exact purpose of the travel is as follows: Site Visit, California Independent System Operator - <br />As part of electric industry restructuring, the California legislature established the Independent System <br />Operator (ISO). The ISO is responsible for the scheduling of electric energy on most of the State's <br />transmission lines. Utilities interact with the ISO through organizations (their own or a third party) known <br />as Scheduling Coordinators. Currently, the City of Colton's Scheduling Coordinator is Sempra Energy <br />Trading of San Diego, CA. The purpose of attending this site visit and presentation regarding the ISO is <br />part of Colton Electric's effort to develop Scheduling Coordinator alternatives in time for the termination of <br />the City's agreement with Sempra on June, 30, 2000. <br />BREAKDOWN OF EXPENSES ARE AS FOLLOWS: <br />Registration <br />Hotel $60 x 2 Days <br />Per Diem $40 x 1 Day(s) <br />Airfare <br />Ground Transportation <br />TOTAL <br />$ 895.00 <br />120.00 <br />40.00 <br />120.00 <br />45.00 <br />$1,220.00 <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are appropriated in Account No. 520-8000-8002-2280-0930-200 in the 1998-99FY budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council approves the proposed travel cost for the Electrical Engineering Manager. <br />APPROVED DISAPPROVED Item # 9 <br />
