CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of October 20, 1998
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILiol
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGER
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTO
SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF THE ENCANTO COURT INSTALLATION OF
WATER LINE PROJECT 100% AS COMPLETE, AND AUTHORIZE
THE RECORDATION OF THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION
DATE: OCTOBER 5, 1998
BACKGROUND:
In 1996 staff recommended that the 8" water main in the private road west of Encanto
Court be replaced. The City selected John Egan and Associates to prepare bid
specifications for the project. The project was advertised for open bids in June and
July, 1998. On July 13, 1998 staff received one bid for the replacement of 14 linear
feet of the 8" water main, in the amount of $30,355 from Cornish Construction
Company, Inc. Staff has reviewed the bid and recommends its approval. On August 4,
1998 Council awarded the contract to Cornish Construction Company in the amount of
$30,355.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The plans and specifications did not include a retaining wall next to the pipeline. The
adjoining property owners have requested that a retaining wall be constructed to
prevent future slippage of the hillside. The contractor submitted a quote for the extra
work, and staff concurred with the quote.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funds have been carried forward from the FY97-98 Water Capital
Improvement budget, account number 521-8100-8106-3890.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council approve the additional cost to the Cornish Construction
Company contract in the amount of $7,058.36; and that Council accept the Encanto
Court installation of water line Project as 100% complete and authorize the Utility
Director to file the Notice of Completion.
Report Prepared By: Lorraine June
Item No. 11
