CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR'<*"'� <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF REVERSAL OF THE COUNCIL'S AWARD OF A <br />CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO LARRY JACINTO CONSTRUCTION <br />COMPANY; AND COUNCIL APPROVAL OF A NEW CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTRACT TO VANCE CORPORATION IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$97,870 <br />DATE: OCTOBER 6, 1998 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Open bids were sought for the trench repair on John Matich Drive. Bid opening was <br />held on September 8, 1998, however, no bids were received. Due to the extreme <br />conditions existing on John Matich Drive, it was essential to have the repair work done <br />immediately. Staff negotiated a contract with Larry Jacinto Construction Company. At <br />the September 15, 1998 Council meeting, Council approved the project as an <br />emergency item, and awarded the construction contract to Larry Jacinto Construction <br />Company. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Larry Jacinto Construction Company would not sign the final contract. Therefore, staff <br />immediately sought additional quotes for the trench repair. Two quotes were received <br />as follows: <br />1. Vance Corporation $97,870 <br />2. Paul Hubbs Construction Company $109,490 <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Sufficient funds have been budgeted in the Water Line Replacement Capital <br />Improvement, Account Number 521-8100-8106-3890. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council award the construction contract to Vance Corporation <br />in the amount of $97,870 for the trench repair on John Matich Drive. <br />Report Prepared By: Lorraine June <br />Item No. 14 <br />
