Parrish, Assistant City Manager SUBJECT: First Annual San Bernardino County "Vision of Excellence Program" 5 & 10- Kilometer Run/Walk at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, October 25, 1998. DATE: September 7, 1998 BACKGROUND: On Sunday, October 25, 1998, the County of San Bernardino Medical Center Department of Behavioral Health is requesting to hold a special event consisting of a five and ten kilometer run/walk through the streets of Colton (as well as streets in the unincorporated County area). According to the information provided to us from the County of San Bernardino Medical Center, Department of Behavioral Health, the plan is to hold this event annually. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The objective of this event is to promote the Behavioral Health Services function at the new Arrowhead Regional Medical Center located in the City of Colton, to promote a positive partnership with the community, and to provide information about Behavioral Health projects in general. The event will start and finish on San Bernardino Avenue at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. This request was reviewed and approved by the Traffic Committee providing that the County Sheriff provides traffic control in the unincorporated areas through which the racecourse traverses. The Colton Police Department will provide traffic control where necessary within the city limits. The county will provide Liability Insurance for the event that is satisfactory to the City of Colton Risk Manager well in advance of the event. FISCAL IMPACT: There will be no hard costs incurred by the City of Colton. Volunteers, sponsors and in- kind service sponsors will staff the event. There will be some staff time involved, as the Colton Police Department has been asked to assist with traffic control in the necessary locations on Colton streets. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve this request. Attachment Item # 15
