CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 6, 1999
U:
APPROVAL:'
FROM:
SUBJECT:
DATE:
BACKGROUND:
Honorable Mayor and City Council
Henry T. Garcia, City Manage
Tom T. Hendrix, Fire Chief
Public Hearing to Discuss the City's Weed Abatement Program
March 22, 1999
Annually, each Spring and Fall, the Fire Department administers the City's Weed
Abatement Program.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
At the regular City Council Meeting on March 16, 1999, the City Council approved
Resolution No. R-25-99 declaring weeds, rubbish and trash a public nuisance and
directing the Fire Chief to give notice and provide for the abatement.
At this time, the City is entering into the Spring Program. Notices have been sent to
approximately 2,000 vacant property owners as identified and reported from the
County Tax Assessor. Abatement proceedings are scheduled to begin May 1, 1999.
In addition, a Public Hearing is required to hear any objections by property owners
who may be assessed for the abatement.
As a point of clarification, each vacant plot of land is identified by a parcel number.
With vacant parcels not having been assigned address numbers, we rely on the
parcel number as the only means of identification in our notification and billing
efforts. These parcel numbers, with reference to the parcel map books, provide us
with the means to identify the property owners and identify the physical location of
each parcel
Page 1 of 2 Itein # 2
