LEAD WASTEWATER OPERATOR CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />LEAD WASTEWATER OPERATOR <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the direction of the Wastewater Utilities Manager and the Wastewater Utilities Supervisor, <br />directs, coordinates and supervises the activities and operations of Wastewater Operators; <br />coordinates daily activities of operation teams, schedules and assigns daily job assignments in <br />accordance with the Wastewater Supervisor; and provides supervisory and technical support to <br />the Wastewater operation crews. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Lead Wastewater Operator is the lead position class responsible for the daily operations <br />and assignments of all operation work crews, acts as a technical resource to operators, and <br />performs the complex and more difficult repairs and operations in the Wastewater Utilities <br />Division. This classification is distinguished from the Wastewater Operator R classification by the <br />performance of the supervisory and complex technical duties associated with the Wastewater <br />Utility Division. Incumbents may be required to work holidays, evenings, and weekends and be <br />on-call for 24 hour shifts as needed. <br />Note: Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of <br />the Department of Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises direct and functional supervision over operations staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Accepts supervisory and lead worker responsibility for activities, operations and services of <br />the Wastewater Utilities Division including daily operations and major facility equipment <br />maintenance and repair tasks including the operation of heavy equipment. <br />• Plans, coordinates and reviews the work of others assigned to daily projects and <br />responsibilities; provides technical direction to maintenance and operation staff. <br />• Provides orientation and training to subordinate personnel; participates in the hiring of new <br />personnel and evaluation of current personnel; identifies and reports staff deficiencies; <br />recommends discipline procedures as required. <br />• Analyzes and evaluates in-house laboratory results, data and procedures and takes corrective <br />action as appropriate; develops new laboratory procedures and may perform laboratory duties. <br />• Operates personal computer, keeps daily records and produces narrative and statistical <br />reports. <br />• Makes recommendations regarding equipment purchasing, upgrades and construction and <br />provides cost estimates as assigned. <br />• Serves as a resource for the Operation Division; coordinates divisional activities with other <br />divisions; provide information and resources to Division Manager as is appropriate. <br />• Performs other related duties as required. <br />
