CITY OF COLTON <br />MAINTENANCE WORKER III <br />Flyof W Q1 V 11130 <br />Under the general supervision of higher level maintenance personnel, performs and occasionally <br />leads skilled maintenance duties and activities assigned to maintenance positions; independently <br />performs a variety of skilled maintenance activities relative to assigned area of responsibility; <br />operates power -driven maintenance and construction equipment. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Maintenance Worker III is the advanced journey level classification within the <br />Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents in this classification perform work of a manual nature <br />which requires a high degree of mental and physical dexterity. This classification is <br />distinguished from the next lower classification of Maintenance Worker 11 by the performance of <br />more technical and complex duties and responsibilities which may include operating heavy <br />equipment, topping off and trimming large trees, maintaining, painting and repairing City streets <br />and signs, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, pouring and forming concrete, and <br />maintaining and repairing a variety of water lines; or the incumbent may assume lead supervision <br />responsibility. Incumbents assigned to the Cemetery ftinction may be involved with the public <br />and assisting in the sale of plots, vaults, and vases. <br />Note: Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of <br />the Department of Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />May exercise technical and finictional supervision over lower level maintenance staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to thefollowing) <br />• Perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility <br />including streets, parks, cemetery, and water divisions. <br />• Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance and construction equipment and/or machinery <br />including a boom truck, dump truck, loader, tractor, chain saws, and a variety of other heavy <br />and powered equipment; perform routine preventive maintenance checks on assigned <br />equipment. <br />• Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensure adherence to safe <br />work methods, procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make <br />recommendations to higher level staff. <br />• Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is <br />appropriate and resolve service complaints. <br />• Perform or assist in performing duties in any other maintenance areas. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />
