CITY OF COLTON MAINTENANCE WORKER III Flyof W Q1 V 11130 Under the general supervision of higher level maintenance personnel, performs and occasionally leads skilled maintenance duties and activities assigned to maintenance positions; independently performs a variety of skilled maintenance activities relative to assigned area of responsibility; operates power -driven maintenance and construction equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Maintenance Worker III is the advanced journey level classification within the Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents in this classification perform work of a manual nature which requires a high degree of mental and physical dexterity. This classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Maintenance Worker 11 by the performance of more technical and complex duties and responsibilities which may include operating heavy equipment, topping off and trimming large trees, maintaining, painting and repairing City streets and signs, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, pouring and forming concrete, and maintaining and repairing a variety of water lines; or the incumbent may assume lead supervision responsibility. Incumbents assigned to the Cemetery ftinction may be involved with the public and assisting in the sale of plots, vaults, and vases. Note: Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of the Department of Transportation. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May exercise technical and finictional supervision over lower level maintenance staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to thefollowing) • Perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility including streets, parks, cemetery, and water divisions. • Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance and construction equipment and/or machinery including a boom truck, dump truck, loader, tractor, chain saws, and a variety of other heavy and powered equipment; perform routine preventive maintenance checks on assigned equipment. • Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensure adherence to safe work methods, procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make recommendations to higher level staff. • Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is appropriate and resolve service complaints. • Perform or assist in performing duties in any other maintenance areas. • Perform other related duties as required.
