CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For City Council Meeting of August 3, 1999
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: HENRY GARCIA, CITY MANAGER
FROM: JOHN C. HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTO
SUBJECT: REQUEST TO SOLICIT BIDS FOR STREET IMPFfOVEMENT PROJECT:
1999-2000 PAVEMENT REHABILITATION PROJECT
DATE: JULY 21, 1999
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department requests authorization to solicit Bids for pavement rehabilitation for the
first year's portion of the Council approved 2 -year Budget. The 1999-2000 Pavement Rehabilitation
Project consists of various processes to rehabilitate approximately two million square feet of existing
pavement in several areas throughout the City. The Public Works Department personnel based project
location selections upon input from the State Mandated IMS Program, a compilation of citizen & Council
based requests, a visual inspection, and coordination with the Utility Department for the paving related to
their FY 99-00 Water/Sewer Projects.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Contract Documents and Specifications will be prepared by Public Works. The Engineer's Estimate for
the project is $1,076,220.00, including contingencies. The scope of work will also include the paving of
a sizable area where the Utility Department will be installing new, or upgrading existing, water and sewer
lines.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $826,220 have been allocated for the Project and are drawn from Public Works'
Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) funding sources: Measure I, Gas Tax, and Host City Fees. In
addition, the Utility Department has requested that $250,000 from their CIP funding sources be added to
the contract to cover the anticipated paving costs for those areas the FY99-00 Water/Sewer Projects
requiring full -width paving. Combining the Utility project with the Public Works project will result in lower
over-all costs for the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff requests Council Authorization to take this Project to bid.
Report prepared by Dusty Dappen, Engineering Technician I
Page 1 of 1 Item #19
