CITY OF COLTON <br />MAINTENANCE WORKER LqI <br />DEFIII�ITION: <br />Under the supervision of higher level maintenance personnel, performs a variety of semi-skilled— <br />and lin-fted skilled maintenance duties and activities within an assigned department; operates <br />power -driven maintenance and construction equipment. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />Maintenance Worker II <br />The Maintenance Worker H is the journey level classification within the Maintenance Worker <br />series. Incumbents in this classification perform work of a manual nature which requires a high <br />degree of mental and physical dexterity. This classification is distinguished from the next higher <br />classification of Maintenance Worker III by the performance of semi -skilled maintenance duties <br />and responsibilities within an assigned area, such as mowing, trinirning, pruning and edging of <br />City Parks, cemetery and other landscape areas, and the performance of semi -skilled painting, <br />carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, asphalt, concrete and other work. Incumbents in this <br />classification may be assigned to any maintenance area to assist crews with assigned duties and <br />responsibilities. <br />Maintenance Worker <br />The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level classification within the Maintenance Worker <br />series. Incumbents within this classification also perform work of a manual nature which requires <br />a high degree of mental and physical dexterity. Incumbents within this classification perform <br />similar duties and responsibilities to those of the Maintenance Worker H, however, they do so <br />under close supervision and direction progressing to general direction as experience is gained. <br />Typically, incumbents within this classification can reasonably expect to progress to Maintenance <br />Worker 11 after two years of performing assigned duties at an independent level. <br />Note: Incumbents in these classifications are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements <br />of the Department of Transportation. <br />ESSENTIALFUNCT'IONS: (include but are not limited to thefollowing): <br />Performs a variety of semi -skilled and limited skilled maintenance tasks relative to assigned <br />area of responsibility including streets, parks, cemetery, and water divisions. <br />Operates and maintains a variety of maintenance and construction equipment and/or <br />machinery including light duty trucks, small tractors, forklifts, riding lawn mowers, <br />skiploaders, chain saws, and a variety of other powered equipment; performs routine <br />preventive maintenance checks on assigned equipment. <br />Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is <br />appropriate and resolves service complaints. <br />Performs or assists in performing duties in any other maintenance areas. <br />Performs other related duties as required. <br />As assi2ned to the Public Works Department <br />
