CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 21, 1999
SUBJECT: APPROVE REVISION TO COMPETITION TRANSITION CHARGE (CTC)
The only line item in the bill that will be subject to competition is the energy charge. The typical option
available for residential service is an energy price set to 5% below the weighted average California Power
Exchange Price for the month. In the example noted, this would mean the energy charge would be $0.0247
per kWh, lowering the total price to $0.1029 per kWh. For a customer who would use 550 kWh in that month,
this would translate into a saving of about 71 cents compared to Colton's rates. It is also possible that average
energy charges in particular months may exceed Colton's rates.
FISCAL IMPACT
The revised CTC does not change any rate schedule under which service is provided to customers remaining
with Colton. It is neither a rate increase nor a rate decrease. Rather, each month the CTC will identify that
portion of the bill depicting what is needed to cover generation -related debt obligations that are not covered by
the market price of energy.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached Resolution, authorizing the revised Schedule
CTC as attached.
Page 2 of 2 (w/attachments)
